What is Bitcoin

Bitcoin is both a digital token and an internet protocol or more simply put, Bitcoin is a type of digital currency known as a cryptocurrency. Even more simply put, Bitcoin is money. How to buy Bitcoin.

Created in 2009 by Satoshi Nakamoto – Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System. Bitcoin is a peer to peer electronic cash system that’s completely decentralized with no central authority to control it. Unlike traditional fiat currency systems that have an unlimited supply and are issued from the top down by governments. Bitcoin has a limited supply of 21 million coins and can only be created through a process known as mining. Mining bitcoin can be thought of as a lottery, in which computers validate outstanding Bitcoin transactions by using real world energy (Proof of Work). Once a mining computer wins the lottery, they gain the ability to validate transactions if they are in consensus with the other miners. The validated transactions are grouped together in a block and chained to the previous block, extending the blockchain. The miner who won the lottery and wrote to the blockchain is rewarded for their efforts in the form of new bitcoin.

The bitcoin blockchain is an incorruptible and continuously growing list of records. It’s an immutable digital ledger of all transactions that have taken place starting from day one in Bitcoins’ history. Bitcoin is verified history!

Much like the internet, you don’t need to know how Bitcoin works to use and benefit from it. However, you should note that Bitcoin is the first and only technology to solve the Byzantine Generals’ Problem by removing counter party risk. One of the many reasons why it’s such an amazing invention. Why Bitcoin?
